NEWS: Move CEO Luc Driessen named Multimodal Ambassador 2026

Move Intermodal is proud to announce that Luc Driessen, group CEO, has been named Multimodal Ambassador 2026 at the Baanbrekers Awards organised by Multimodaal Vlaanderen.

The recognition goes beyond an individual achievement. It reflects more than 35 years of commitment to turning multimodal transport from an ambition into a practical, reliable and more sustainable solution for European freight.

More than 35 years of commitment to multimodality

Luc Driessen receives the multimodal ambassador award from Annick de Ridder, Flemish Minister of Mobility, Public Works, Ports and Sport.Multimodal transport has been at the heart of Move Intermodal for more than three decades.

Throughout that period, Move has continued to invest in solutions combining road, rail and inland waterways. Under Luc’s leadership, this has included the development of a European multimodal network, investments in rail connections and terminals, innovative loading units such as the award-winning ultra-light swap body, and long-term partnerships with organisations including Combinant and Genk Cargo Connect.

The impact is measurable. In 2025 alone, Move realised 63,000 intermodal transports, generating an estimated CO₂ saving of 110,000 tonnes compared to conventional road transport alternatives.

For Luc, however, the award is first and foremost a recognition of the people behind these achievements.

“This is a great personal honour, but I see it primarily as recognition for the entire Move Intermodal team. Their commitment, drive and daily dedication have brought us to where we are today. Without them, this would not have been possible.”

From ambition to action

Despite decades of progress, the modal shift still faces important challenges. Reliability and profitability remain under pressure, while investment in infrastructure, capacity and innovation needs to keep pace with Europe’s ambitions for sustainable transport.

At the same time, the logistics sector faces congestion, pressure on infrastructure, driver shortages and rising costs. Making better use of rail and inland waterways is therefore not only an environmental ambition, but increasingly a question of resilient and future-proof logistics.

For Luc, this makes one conclusion unavoidable:

“We have been talking about intermodal transport as the future for decades. At some point, the future has to become the present. That requires investment, reliability, capacity and competitive conditions. Above all, it requires choices.”

Collaboration must become the norm

The Baanbrekers Awards also highlighted multimodal initiatives of several shippers and transport companies.

They underline a principle that has been central to Move’s approach for decades: the modal shift cannot be achieved by individual companies acting alone. Shippers, logistics providers, terminals, infrastructure managers, customers and policymakers all have a role to play.

“What these companies are achieving should not remain the exception. This type of collaboration must become the norm if we genuinely want to build sustainable, future-proof logistics.”

Making multimodality the norm

Being named Multimodal Ambassador 2026 recognises Luc’s contribution as an entrepreneur and industry figure who has helped shape the modal shift in practice. At the same time, it recognises the contribution Move Intermodal, its employees, customers and partners have made to developing more sustainable European supply chains.

Move will continue to make the choice it has made for more than 35 years: to invest in multimodality, collaboration and innovation.

Because ultimately, the ambition should not be to keep talking about the modal shift.

The ambition should be to realise it.

So that intermodal transport is no longer seen as the alternative.

But simply as the norm.
